FINDING YOUR PLACE: WHY COMMUNITY MATTERS (AND WHY I'M CHAIRING THE MALDEN CHAMBER'S MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE)
I'll be honest: I originally joined the Malden Chamber of Commerce to grow my business. Meet more local buyers and sellers. Make connections that would help my real estate practice thrive.
And yes, that happened. But what I didn't expect was everything else.
Chamber membership became about so much more than transactions. It became about truly connecting with my community by supporting local businesses and the people behind them. I've met, helped, and been helped by such a diverse, talented, and interesting collection of people. The kind of relationships that remind you why you chose to work and live in Malden in the first place.
FINDING THE RIGHT FIT
As a real estate agent, I spend a lot of time helping people find the right house. But what I've learned over the years is that people aren't just looking for four walls and a roof. They're looking for a place where they belong. A neighborhood that feels right. A community that welcomes them.
The same is true for any community you join, whether it's a professional organization, a parent group, a faith community, or yes, a Chamber of Commerce.
When you find the right fit, something shifts. You stop showing up just for what you can get and start showing up for what you can give. The connections become deeper. The impact becomes real. And suddenly, you're not just a member—you're part of something bigger.
TAKING THE NEXT STEP
Last week, Mayor Gary Christenson swore me in as a member of the Malden Chamber of Commerce Executive Board. As Chair of the Membership Committee, my role isn't just about recruiting new members. It's about ensuring that others in Malden experience the same connection, meaning, and success that I've found through this organization.
Because here's what I know: when people feel welcomed, supported, and valued in their community, they stay. They invest. They build. They thrive.
That's true whether we're talking about Chamber membership or homeownership.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
If you're considering a move, one of the most important questions I can help you answer isn't "What's the square footage?" or "How's the school system?" (though those matter too). It's "Will I feel at home here?"
Finding the right community changes everything. It's the difference between living somewhere and belonging somewhere.
I'm grateful to work in communities like Malden, where diverse, talented people are building businesses, raising families, and creating the kind of connections that make a place special. Congratulations to our new Chamber President, Barsha Gautam of Eastern Bank, whose focus on board engagement and ensuring our diverse community feels welcomed and represented is exactly what we need. And a heartfelt thank you to Executive Director Marianne Cohen for encouraging me to step into this leadership role and for setting such a positive, forward-thinking tone.
Whether you're looking for your next home or simply curious about what makes Malden (or any community) tick, I'm here to help you find your place.
Because everyone deserves to be part of a community where they truly belong.
